Hilton Head Island is located along the southeastern coast of South Carolina. We are located just 35 miles from Savannah, Georgia.

There are numerous ways to get to Hilton Head Island. You can drive, you can fly commercial or in your own plane, you can come by rail, by bus, or even on your private yacht via the Inter-Coastal Waterway.

If you are driving from the North, you'll be on I-95 heading south. Get off I-95 at Exit 8 and take Route 278 straight to the Island. It is about 30 minutes from the I-95 turnoff to the bridge onto the Island.

If you are driving from the South, you'll be on I-95 heading north. Get off I-95 at Exit 8 and take Route 278 straight to the Island.

Click on map for a larger imageU. S. Route 278 is the only highway coming to Hilton Head Island (click on map to right for a larger image). 278 extends all the way to I-95 (Exit #8). Cross the large bridge which spans the Intercoastal Waterway and you are now on the Island. About 2 miles onto the Island, you'll see signs for the New Cross Island Parkway using the left lanes, and Business 278 using the right lanes (stay in the right lanes).

If you are planning to fly to Hilton Head Island, you can either fly straight to the Island or you can fly to the new Savannah Airport. It is exactly 1 hour driving time from Savannah Airport to the center of the Island. You would follow the driving directions listed above as you will be on I-95 heading north when you leave the Savannah Airport. You can get a rental car, taxi, or limo at the Airport.

If you take a commercial flight to the Hilton Head Island Airport, you can connect at Charlotte with USAIR Express, ( numerous flights daily ), or at Atlanta with 4 daily round-trip flights by Continental Connection. You can get a rental car, taxi, or limo at the Airport.

If you have a private aircraft, there are parking and tie-down facilities at the airport.
